Slugs on my strawberries!!

I can't seem to keep the slugs off my strawberries.

I am growing them in an old hollowed-out log and the slugs are having a field-day!

I tried beer traps and while they do kill a lot of slugs, the strawberries are still being eaten.
I tried copper strips but I think the surface is too uneven because it didn't seem to do anything at all.

Pellets work but need replenishing every day and even then some of the strawberries are getting eaten.

I;d love to hear what worked for you.
